Unhappy HNT

GOOD NEWS! I got my computer back from repair and it works just fine. But that's about where the good news ends.

Yesterday my hard drive crashed. I had a new one and took it to someone to be repaired. I could have done the swap myself, but before I could make a Ghost copy of the mater drive to my slave drive, the master drive stopped functioning completely. I was hoping the repairman could do something to save my data.

The repairman called me late this afternoon and said he couldn't do anything to save my data, because the hard drive is shot. He told me he did install a new operating system and the computer was working fine. I pretty much knew that before I took it to him, but was hoping he could do something anyway. It cost me $200 for something I could have done myself. Oh well, lesson learned.

Some of the bad news is that I lost all my email records and email address book, my bookmarks for Firefox and also have to install a ton of software. You can see the stack of CD's I have to install in the picture above in addition to all the downloaded programs I use. There is some good news. I saved the downloaded program files on my slave drive. That means I don't have to download them again, just install them.

I also copied the bookmarks to my laptop right after I bought it, so I didn't loose most of them. I've copied them back to my desktop computer. I did loose some great bookmarks to some awesome porno movie sites I recently found. Great stuff. They have a lot of free 20 and 30 minute movies with excellent resolution and quality.

Now listen to me, I vow not to rest until I locate those sites again! I remember they were web sites in Denmark so at least I have it narrowed down to one country. I could have a long night ahead of me.

PS
Sorry that the picture isn't of better quality. I only managed to take a couple of pictures before my camera battery died. At least I hope it just died and my camera didn't crap out too.

Guess What's Missing....

Can you guess what's missing from this picture?

It's my fucking computer, that's what!

It was fine when I left for Rhode Island and last night when I got back, it was making a clicking noise. Today, it died.

I'm on my laptop now so the update of my Rohode Island trip will have to wait until my desktop gets fixed, whic hopefully will be soon.

I'm back!

Friday I took Lori, her son and one of her daughters up to Rhode Island and just got back. Lori's niece graduated from high school last week, so we went up for the party.

Not a lot exciting to tell you about. Well, except there was breakfast in bed everyday at her mom's house and then Sunday night, Lori's mom climbed into bed with us after we all got back from the party. Lori said it was typical family get together stuff.

It's kind of late right now, so I'll fill you in as soon as I get caught up around here.

Baby BTExpress HNT

I was looking at the photo album my mom sent me and found these photos of me when I was 15 months old. They were taken sometime during February 1950 when we lived in Windber, Pennsylvania.

I don't have any special reason for posting them, I just thought you'd be interested in seeing them. ;-)

Did you miss me?

My excuse for not posting, and I'll swear to it, is that I've been busy and just haven't had the time. Today the guilt got to me so here's a little something to make up for my negligence.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last weekend Lori stayed at my place. Friday she was in bed nursing an infected tooth, but by Saturday morning the meds kicked in and she was feeling better. We did some snuggling and later that day we went shopping. She couldn’t eat anything that required very much chewing, so we bought the stuff so I could make meatloaf, creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes.
We also bought fresh local strawberries on Saturday and Lori made freezer jam. I'll tell you how to make it in another post. Let me tell you, that stuff is good and I recommend making it if you have the chance.
Sunday was Father’s Day, so Lori wanted to cook something for me that I’ve had a craving for, liver. What's that you say? You hate liver. Well, Lori and I love it. Especially smothered in onions and gravy over pasta. We also had a salad with blue cheese dressing.
Today Brain and I finished moving all the crap we trimmed off the bushes to the driveway in front of the house.
Right now I'm frigging starving, so I'm going warm up some liver and pasta for dinner. There's still some salad mix left so I think I'll have a salad too. I might also squeeze in a gin and tonic or seven.
Happy Father's Day
I hope you had a better Father's Day than this father did.
Why am I posting tonight you ask?
It's Friday night at about midnight, Lori is lying in my bed and I am at the computer posting on my blog.
Why you ask? I know your thinking I'm crazy. I have a hot chick in my bed and I am on the computer. WTF are you doing Tony?
Well, I'll tell you.
Lori broke a tooth very badly last weekend eating a piece of bacon. At first it didn't bother her at all, but during the week, the nerves became irritated and it became infected. She went to the dentist on Friday but he couldn't do anything with the tooth, because of the swelling and infection. She has another appointment Monday morning.
He gave her some prescriptions and she is here with me for the weekend and i will take care of her.
So, when she got here after the dentist, I put on my caregivers hat and have been taking care of her. I think I am doing a good job so far.
I think it is better if I stay out here on the computer, instead of risking my fondling her while we are in bed. I just can't keep my hands off that body!
HOPEFULLY she will feel good enough for a little snuggling in the next day or two. If not, that's okay. I just want her to feel better.
Now, it's time for the antibiotic. Night!
Edit, Sarurday: Due to all of your kinds words and the meds, Lori felt a lot better this morning. So much better that there was major snuggling going on from 7:30 until we got out of bed about 1:30. Well, there was a nap in between, but just a short one. :-)
Am I weird?
I saw this at Recon’s place. She promised those who tagged themselves something special in their email if they did. So Recon, against my better judgement, because now everyone will know how weird I really am, here’s my weird side.
1. Whenever I take a shower, I must always wash the bottom of both of my feet. I have this feeling if I don’t, something bad will happen to me.
2. I have what’s left of the very first styptic pencil I bought after I was married in 1972. I have this feeling that when it’s all used up I will die, so I haven’t used it for who knows how long. I keep buying new ones when I need to, but will never use the old one. I keep it in the bathroom medicine cabinet in the plastic top to an old can of shaving cream I bought at the same time.
3. I put on my left sock first, then my right. Then I put on my left shoe and last I my right shoe. I’m not phobic about this like the first two things, but I always try to put them on in that order.
4. I put on my pants both legs at a time instead of one leg at a time. The same goes for my underwear. I have to be sitting down to do this, so I there’s no place for me to sit, I put them on one leg at a time like everyone else. I’m not phobic about this one either, but I just like doing it that way.
5. For about the first 25 years after I got out of the army in 1970, I would never sit with my back to the room. Now I will, but I still prefer not to. I think it has something to do with feeling like someone is going to sneak up behind me.
That’s all I can think of that I do, which has a tinge of weird to it. Now how weird are you?
Yard Work HNT
I've been working outside in the yard all week trimming bushes and pulling weeds. Today I finished the last of the trimming, now I have to clean up the mess I've made. Right now the bushes look pretty bad, because I had to cut them back so severly. I've done this before, so I know they will eventually fill out nicely and look like they are suppose to once again. Here are some before and after shots. I'll take some more shots once they fill out and compare them to these pictures.
Here's what the front of the house looked like before I trimmed.
Here's what it looked like after.
Here's what the bushes at the far end of the pool looked like before I trimmed.
Here's what they looked like after.
Here's what the bushes at the other end of the pool looked like before I trimmed.
Here's what they looked like after.
That pile of trimmings on the right comes up to my shoulders.
Here are close ups of the bushes. I really cut them back a lot.
Here's what I looked like this afternoon after I was done trimming, but before I took a shower.
Here's what I looked like after I took a shower. This is full frontal nudity by the way. Maybe if you look close and squit your eyes, you can see my naked junk.
HAPPY HALF-NEKKID THURSDAY Y'ALL!
Weekend Update
Our weekend went well and happily, there were no lettuce type incidences!
Friday night we got a hamburger for dinner and then went to the movies. We saw “Cars”. It's a very good movie and I highly recommend it for everyone.
Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera are the stars of Pixar’s new animated movie.
The cast also includes, left to right: Sarge, Luigi, Fillmore, Guido, Mater, Red, Sheriff, Ramone, Flo and Lizzie.
After the movies, we went back to Lori's place. We watched some TV, had a couple of drinks and settled into bed for some well needed snuggling and finally got to sleep around 3:00 AM due to the fact someone couldn't sleep.
Saturday afternoon, yes afternoon, we finally got out of bed (hey, we were tired and wanted to snuggle some more) around 2:00. We went shopping for dinner and some more gin and tonic. Damn stuff just seems to disappear all on it's own for some reason.
The steak pin wheels looked good, so we got two of those. We also bought a giant sweet potato, a very large Valeda onion and some corn on the cob.
Since we were at Lori's house, she was going to cook dinner this time. Remembering the lettuce incident, I kept my mouth shut and only helped her dinner when she asked me. I sliced the onion exactly how we liked it, nice and thick so they would be a little crunchy when we ate them. Note: Lori is the perfect girl for me because she loves onions and garlic as much as I do!
Here's Lori setting up our plates.
Lori cooked everything just PERFECTLY, with just a little stirring of the onions by me. The steak pin wheels were medium rare, she prepared the sweet potato with a little butter and corn on the cob also with a little butter and a touch salt. I put pepper on the sweet potato and corn. YUMMY!!!!! I can still taste it!
It was late when we finished dinner, so we showered and went right to bed. We watched some of the Cooking Channel for a while, snuggled and then fell a sleep, but not too late. I think it was around 1:00 AM.
Sunday morning we were up just before noon, but stayed in bed and snuggled a little, just a little, because we wanted to get out of the house before her children got home. I helped her take their winter clothes down to the basement and bring up a few things that she uses during the summer. We also packed my car with some clothes she wanted to keep at my house.
You see, Lori will be staying at my house on weekends from now on. No more motels! I had a conversation with my son Brian and he’s okay with it. You see, Brian didn't like the fact I was dating, and made that perfectly clear to me. He told me he understood why I wanted to date, and wasn't mad at me for dating, but he said he thought it was too soon after the death of my wife (October 2005).
One night two weeks ago, Brian got home from work around 10:30 and I had a talk with him. I told him that Lori would be staying at our house on weekends from now on. I explained that the cost of motels had skyrocketed on Long Island now that the summer season is here. I explained how the prices had gone up from $99 to $139 a night in one place and from $79 to $125 a night in another. I told him that it was too expensive to stay in motels every weekend now. The prices surprised him (I could see in the way he looked that he had no idea it was so expensive). Guess what his response was? "Yep, ok." Then he just walked into his room to eat the food he brought home with him.
OK?! That's it?! I was expecting a negative response, I really was. But nope, he just said he was going to eat and then go to bed. I was very surprised he didn't say anything else and I'm thinking "what the fuck?!" No bitching or complaining or anything of the such like the last time we talked about her staying here. I thought he might be mad, but he didn't want to get into it, so he just went to his room and not talk about it. I just let it be.
My curiosity got the best of me in a few minutes, so I go into his room to see if he was mad or will even talk to me. We made some small talk. I asked him what he was eating, how his lizards are doing, reminded him we need to fumigate the house to get rid of ants, stuff like that. He was very pleasant and we had a nice chat.
Okay, so now I'm thinking, things are going so well, I'll bring up having Lori and her kids all over for 4th of July and that we need to open the pool and clean up outside. Guess what he said? He says, "Ok."
After talking for a few minutes, he told me he was tired. I could see that in his face. And he was going to finish eating and get to sleep. I told him good night and I love you. He replied with the same.
Now I'm surprised, shocked even. I'm thinking HOLY CRAP! Did this conversation really happen? I am so surprised it went so well. Damn, he must be used to Lori and I seeing each other now. How about that?
Sorry for getting side tracked.
After we left Lori’s place yesterday, we stopped at a diner for breakfast about 2:30. Then I took the long way to my house through the small towns on the North Fork of Long Island. I wanted to look at all the small towns, farm stands and thing like that.
When we got to my place, Lori put away her clothes, I opened the mail and then we sat down at my computer so i could download pictures from her camera. I downloaded a lot of pictures, about one-years worth. She has a very old Mac computer and can’t get the camera software to work on it for her. We spent quite a while looking at the pictures while I edited them, so I could print them out for her for an album she has. We’ll print them out next weekend.
After we were done with that, Lori wanted gyros for dinner so we went up into town and got take out of the gyros and Greek salad. We brought it back to my house where we watched a movie while we ate. After dinner, we snuggled on the couch (really just snuggled this time) watching the movie until about 10:30. We then showered and went to bed for a different kind of snuggling before we fell a sleep around 12:30.
Lori didn’t have to get up until 7:30 to go to work, but we woke up at 6:30 and snuggled before she finally got out of bed about 8:00 and got ready for work. I was awake by then, so there was no going back to sleep for me. I made a pot of coffee, some breakfast and here I am typing this post.
GOOD MORNING Y’ALL! How was your weekend?
Have a Great Weekend Y'all
I'm off to Lori's place in a few minutes. Her kids have left and aren't going to be home until Sunday. Then we are going to my place. My son will be out all day Sunday and won't be home until late Sunday night. I'll give you one guess on what we will be spending A LOT of time doing. Here's a hint.
Did you guess?
The Lettuce Incident
Note: I made reference to the “The Lettuce Incident” in a post the week Lori stayed with me at my house while my son and his girl friend were in Florida on vacation. When the "Lettuce Incident" happened, I really didn’t think it was a big deal, which is why I just blew it off in my post and didn’t get into details. I have since learn how mistaken I was. Since then, I have had numerous requests to explain the “The Lettuce Incident”, so here it finally is. I don’t know what you are expecting, because this story is not at all exciting or funny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lori and I were preparing dinner one evening and Lori was going to make the salad. She took the head of lettuce out of the plastic bag and hit the core on the counter to remove it. This surprised me and I told her that. I told her not to do it that way, as removing the core would expose both ends of the head to air and accelerate spoilage. Lori just put down the lettuce and walked into the other room. I didn’t make anything of it and prepared the salad myself. Little did I know was that those few simple words were the words that “broke the camels back”.

Things went well for a while after that. We talked, had a couple of drinks and just passed the time until dinner was ready. When dinner was ready, we sat down and began eating. I’m not certain how it came up, but during dinner, I mentioned something about the “the lettuce incident” and that I thought she might be a tad upset. Lori’s response included, “it was only frigging lettuce!” Woops, my intuition immediately clued me in that something about “the lettuce incident” was not okay. We discussed it at the time and I thought we settled the matter, but then about two weeks ago, the subject came up again.

Lori and I were online chatting via Yahoo chat like we do every night we are not together. She commented that a few of you had asked about the “The Lettuce Incident” on my blog. She asked me what I was going to do. I told her I was going to post something about it. Something like "all I was thinking was that Lori was preparing the lettuce for the salad, and I didn’t like the way she was doing it, so I did it, but I was mistaken". This started a conversation that was quite awaking to me. The conversation went like this.

Note: I’m going to add some words that will be in parentheses to make the conversation more clear. I think that will make it easier for you to understand exactly what we were saying to each other.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lori: what are you going to say about the lettuce
Lori: you probably don’t know (what even happened)
Me: (I’m) just (going to say) what happened
Lori: how I walked out of the room and wouldn’t cut it (the lettuce) after you said I shouldn’t of smacked the core on the counter (to remove it)?
Lori: (and) how all the days’ prior you had made (critical) comments without realizing it?
Lori: something like when you asked me what I had learned (from you so far)
Lori: that I brought up the "lettuce incident" as almost the last straw"?
Lori: but I didn’t want to complain or whatever?
Lori: something like that?
(Holy crap I’m thinking! What in the world did I do?)
Me: I'm missing something
Me: I didn't know I was making (critical) comments before that
Lori: all week
Me: what did I say?
Lori: you know it
Lori: that’s why I walked out and wouldn’t cut it
Lori: I told you you had said things all week
(I still didn’t know all the things I said to upset her)
Me: what was I saying?
Lori: oh god
Lori: I would have to think back at each meal
Me: wait
Me: you mean I was criticizing you each time you helped me?
Lori: yup
Me: woops
Lori: I thought you knew
(I really didn’t or I would have stopped. I guess why I was never a teacher)
Me: I didn't mean to
Me: I think I just meant to tell you how I wanted things done
Me: not realized I was being critical
Me: now I get it
Me: sorry baby
Lori: well that’s why I didn’t say anything
Me: I'll be much more careful in the future
(Now I’m thinking, why didn’t Lori say something at the time instead of walking away?)
(Next, she told me some of the things I said that made her feel as if she couldn’t do anything right.)
Lori: I couldn’t even stack your dishwasher the way I wanted, or hand wash certain things without you telling me not to,
Lori: but its ok
Lori: you aren’t use to having me or anyone else but Barbara in your kitchen
Lori: I understand
Lori: and we worked it out
(Now I want to explain myself to her to see if I can make her understand that I’m not the ass I came off to be)
Me: see
Me: when she (Barbara) was cooking, I just took directions
Me: when I cooked, she really didn't say very much
Me: she knew how to leave me alone I guess
Me: allowed me to make my mistakes (that were no big deal) and just let it slide
Me: I guess that's because of her being a teacher and dealing with little kids (Barbara taught all levels of school for 34 years)
Me: I never had anyone help me (after she became very ill)
Me: I just did it the way I thought it should be done
Me: when she was around (before she became ill), I had my chores and she had hers
(Now I’m trying to make sure Lori understands I didn’t mean to criticize)
Me: I would never do it to be mean
Me: to you
Me: I was just being instructive in how I wanted things done
(It finally dawns on me after all these years that I seem to do this a lot and never even realized)
Me: no wonder my son yells at me sometimes when we do thing together
Me: he (really) does too
Me: he sometimes snaps at me “to just let him do it!”
Me: I just have to learn I guess
Me: bear with me k?
Lori: yup, its over with. But I didn’t take it as instructional, you did make me feel like I couldn’t do anything right. But I know that wasn’t your intent. But I don’t know what your gonna write in a post cuz they really think its going to be something funny
(Wow, I really blew it and never even knew it. I wish she had told me right away about this, so it didn’t fester inside her all week and turn into a big deal. We talked about that and agreed we would both try to do that in the future.)
Me: again, I'm sorry
Lori: no don’t be sorry,
(Okay folks, here is the moral to the story)
Lori: its just another misunderstanding
Lori: you were saying things one way and I was taking it as another............hmmmmm maybe you could write about that and how a little
Lori: "lettuce incident" could have become a big problem
Lori: had we not talked about it
Lori: and how important communication is
Lori: and we learned something
Lori: and they might learn something too
Lori: and now we have a better understanding of each other, and we will compromise and talk, cuz we love each other
Lori: and things really did work out ok, and we had a great week
(Oh man! Was I relieved she felt like this)
Me: good idea
Me: I'll put something together and we can go back and forth with it until we both like it then I'll post it
Lori: k
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In closing, I found out that when people want to discuss things that are on your mind, discussing them on Yahoo chat, or any other chat for that matter, is a great way to do it. I think sometimes it’s better not to have that face-to-face confrontation. This allows you both a chance to say what you want to say without the other person interrupting, which inevitably come when people are discussing matters such as "the lettuce incident" with each other.

I Need Sympathy

Just before my son Brian's 24th birthday on April 26th, I asked him what he want. He told me he needed a brake job for his car and the belts were squeaking under the hood. He asked me if I would pay for that.

I was in a generous mood and told him yes. I mean come on, I needed a massive brake job once and that cost just under $400, so how much could this cost?

Well, today was the day I found out just how much it would cost. Nothing was even broken, just front rotors and brake pads on all four wheels. Well, there was the inspection, transmission flush, replace the two serpentine belts and a few other "minor" things ***.

Before proceeding, guess how much?

Go ahead guess?

I need sympathy or maybe a smack up side the head for agreeing to pay for the service.

Hope Your Weekend Was a Good One........

Edit: Blogger finally let me upload the pictures from the weekend. I hope you enjoy them half as much as I enjoyed taking them. ;-)

.......Because mine sure was.Yesterday was the three month anniversary of Lori and I meeting. Our first date was the movies, dinner and then a night at Kenny's Pub for drinking, dancing and live music. Before the night was over, we both knew we were meant for each other and everyday since it just gets better.

Friday, on my way to pick up Lori after work, I stopped and bought her a bouquet of flowers. She loves flowers. I bought her the bouquet with the pink roses since she LOVES pink. Pink anything. Hell, she even has pink luggage. I got there a little early to surprise her and she introduced me to her boss, most of her co-workers and showed off the flowers.

After we left there, we went to a bar/restaurant in the Polish Town area of Riverhead for dinner. Next we back to the motel room I rented for the weekend to put our stuff away and snuggle. Later that evening we went to Friendly's Restaurant for ice cream and then back to the motel room for more snuggling and to watch some television.

Saturday we went to a pig roast at the Pindar Winery. It was held as a benefit to raise money for the East End Hospice services here on Long Island. It rained all day Saturday, but that didn't stop the pig roast. Pindar has a covered area that they enclosed in plastic so we all stayed dry. They had all the good food and wine you wanted and a DJ that had good taste in music.

We were almost the last ones to leave the pig roast. Then we went back to the motel where we snuggled some more and rested up for the night out. Here are a few places we snuggled.

Around 10:00, we went to "Jerry and the Mermaid's" for karaoke and a visit with our favorite waitress, Liz (aka Bubbles). We didn't leave until it closed at 3:00 am.

Lori and I
I pretty sure these were taken when Lori decided she wanted to get back to the motel

Sunday we got out of bed around noon and then went right to breakfast. We were going to snuggle before we left, but decided to get going because we had plans to go to Montauk Point for the day. Since Lori had never been there, there would be a lot to see and would need a lot of time to see what we could.

While we were at the diner getting breakfast, we decided not to go to Montauk Point and go another day instead. We reasoned that since it was already so late, about 12:30. And it would be about one hours drive to Montauk Point. And there would be many more days ahead of us this summer to go. And it was our official 3-month anniversary that day and we didn’t get a chance to snuggle that morning. We thought it only made sense to go to Montauk Point another day. So back to the motel room where we spent the next five hours in bed snuggling, napping and watching television.

That evening we did manage to get up and go to Applebee’s for dinner, but that was about as much as we felt like doing so after dinner we went back to the motel.

Along about 11:45 the munchies hit us. I got dressed and headed over to McDonald’s for a snack. That hit the spot and tied us over until we fell a sleep around 1:00 – 1:30.

Then this morning we had to get up early because Lori had to go to work. I took her to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee, they have the best around there, and then I dropped her off at work. I walked her in and said hello to whoever was there. That included her son Adam and her daughter Bethany. They both work there.

All in all, I’d have to rate this weekend a 10 out of 10.

You know what? I’d have to rate every day I spend with Lori a 10 out of 10.

Well, except for the day of the “Lettuce Incident”. That one was just a tad lower as I was such an ass.

Remind me to tell you about that some day.
